Former News International Boss Rebekah Brooks was today arrested following allegations that while Editor of the former Newspaper “News of the World” the publication was involved in Hacking and bribing of police officers.
Mrs Brooks remains in custody following her arrest by appointment this afternoon, however concerns have begun over the timing of this, coming 2 days before she was due to appear before the Parliamentary committee on Culture media and sport. Timing which didn’t escape the notice of member Adrian Sanders (Lib) who remarked that
“Quite why now, just a few hours before our select committee meets, an arrangement has been made for an arrest. A lot of people are going to think this is very, very odd.
“If this is designed to take the spotlight off the police at the same time giving a shield to Rebekah Brooks, that’s a very serious matter indeed. We don’t know how much this is going to impede our questioning until we’ve been able to sit down and talk it through with the parliamentary counsel.”
While this may seem like “area 51 through the looking glass stuff” it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a desperate attempt by the boys in Scotters to keep her out of the hearings. Maybe they were tipped off she was going to embarrass the force? But then the question remains. How do you embarrass somebody with no shame?
